PM directs authorities to expedite relief, rescue efforts in earthquake hit Doti district

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has directed the concerned authorities to make arrangements for immediate rescue and relief of those affected by the earthquake in Doti.

He also expressed condolences to the families of the persons who lost their lives to the earthquake and wished speedy recovery of the injured.

An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale shook Doti district in the far western Nepal on Wednesday, killing six persons and injuring six others.

The deceased have been identified as Prem Bohara (50), Bhagwati Bohara (40), Sita Bohara (13), Harka Bohara (8), Dhansari Bohara (14) and Tulchi Bohara (14) of Purnachauki Rural Municipality-3, Doti.

The 6.6 ML quake with its epicenter at Khaptad National Park (Khaptad Baba’s Ashram) in Doti district, was recorded at 2:12 am, the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center said.

Earlier on Tuesday, the 5.7 ML magnitude earthquake with its epicentre Dipayal was recorded by the National Seismological Centre at 9:07 pm.

It has been learnt that around 10 houses collapsed in the earthquake.
