To collect and distribute river-based minerals, the government will set up legal procedures

KATHMANDU: To collect and distribute stones, gravel, and sand that come from rivers, the government will set up the necessary legal procedures.

The necessary legal arrangements will be made to collect and distribute river-based stones, gravel, and sand so as to not harm the environment, President Ram Chandra Paudel said on Friday while announcing the policies and programs for the fiscal year 2023–2024.

Similar to this, it is stated in the policies and programs that irrigation facilities will be offered all year long through appropriate irrigation techniques based on geographical circumstances and water sources.

The government plans to implement major projects, update the irrigation master plan, and advance the building and upkeep of main and branch canals for significant and multipurpose irrigation projects.

Similar to this, President Paudel’s policies and programs mention that large multipurpose diversion projects will be built and operated more quickly, that work will be done to provide irrigation facilities in Salyantar, Dhading, and that the decision to provide a discount on electricity tariffs will be made by making simple arrangements for irrigation-related electricity supply. He added that free tube wells and water pumps would be given to small farmers for irrigation.

Additionally, the government wants to make wood a domestic resource. The policy, according to President Paudel, is to discourage the import of wood and other forest products and to support the operation of industries based on these products.

The policies and programs state that after completing the necessary steps, the trees will be sold and distributed. Additionally, an integrated program will be launched to encourage agriculture and fruit production in the potential forest areas.
