NOC implements significant reduction in petroleum prices

KATHMANDU: In a move to provide relief to consumers, Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has taken a decisive step by lowering the prices of petroleum products, effective from Monday midnight. This decision impacts the prices of diesel, petrol, kerosene, and aviation fuel across the country.

The adjustment of prices was done based on a three-category territorial division, as disclosed by NOC Spokesperson Manoj Thakur. Notably, the first category witnesses a substantial decrease of Rs 7.50 for diesel, petrol, and kerosene, while the second and third categories observe reductions of Rs 6 and Rs 5, respectively.

As a result of this adjustment, the cost of petrol will now be Rs 167.50 per liter in the first category, Rs 169 in the second category, and Rs 170 in the third category. This comes as a welcome change from the previous price of Rs 175 per liter nationwide.

Furthermore, diesel and kerosene prices have been set at Rs 147.50 per liter in the first category, Rs 149 per liter in the second category, and Rs 150 per liter in the third category.

To clarify the territorial categorization, NOC has assigned Charali, Biratnagar, Janakpur, Birgunj, Amalekhgunj, Bhalbari, Nepalgunj, and Dhangadi to the first category. Surkhet and Dang fall under the second category, while Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Dipayal belong to the third category.

In another positive development, domestic aviation fuel prices have been notably reduced by Rs 14 per liter, and international aviation fuel sees a reduction of 115 US dollars per kiloliter. However, it’s important to note that the price of LP gas, commonly used for cooking purposes, remains unchanged.

This price revision by NOC is expected to have a positive impact on the daily lives of citizens, providing some relief from the burden of high fuel costs.
