KATHMANDU: In response to the tragic incident involving Nepali citizens in Israel, the government has initiated a comprehensive effort to facilitate the repatriation of deceased Nepali nationals and the rescue of those in distress.

Presently, operations at the Tel Aviv airport are proceeding smoothly, allowing for the efficient transportation of Nepali bodies by air. Consequently, the process of repatriating the deceased and assisting those who wish to return home has begun.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement last night outlining their actions: “We have urged the Israeli government to swiftly identify and arrange for the repatriation of the deceased Nepali nationals, as well as to ensure the rescue and appropriate medical treatment for the injured.”

In collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nepali Embassy in Tel Aviv, and the Government of Israel, an online registration system is being developed to collect essential information from Nepali citizens who want to return to Nepal from Israel.

The unfortunate incident occurred last Saturday when 10 Nepali citizens, participants in the Israeli government’s “Learn and Earn” program and students of Sudur Paschim University, were affected by an attack carried out by the Palestinian militant group, Hamas. Many Nepalis are currently taking shelter in bunkers, anxiously awaiting rescue.

Upon learning of the Nepali casualties in the Hamas attack, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal convened a meeting with ministers and secretaries, including Foreign Minister NP Saud. He issued directives to initiate the rescue process for the affected Nepali citizens.

During the same meeting, a coordination mechanism was established under the supervision of Foreign Minister Saud. Minister Saud emphasized that the mechanism is taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and rescue of Nepali citizens in Israel.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is providing essential guidance to the Nepali Embassy in Tel Aviv while collaborating with relevant agencies. The government of Nepal is fully committed to promptly rescuing Nepali citizens from conflict-affected areas.

The Ministry has also provided contact details for officials from the Nepali Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urging affected individuals to stay in touch with them and remain vigilant during this challenging period.
