Earthquake devastation in Nepal: Death toll climbs to 143 in Jajarkot and Rukum West

KATHMANDU: The recent earthquake that struck the regions of Jajarkot and Rukum West has left a devastating impact, with the death toll rising to 143 and numerous individuals suffering injuries in its wake.

The toll of this natural disaster has been particularly significant in Jajarkot, where a staggering 105 lives were tragically lost, and an additional 81 people were left with various degrees of injuries. Meanwhile, in the neighboring Rukum West, 38 individuals lost their lives, and 85 more were wounded.

These unsettling statistics were provided in an update from the Nepal Police, released at 3:30 PM today, painting a grim picture of the earthquake’s aftermath. As per the latest information, a total of 143 lives have been claimed by this seismic event, while 166 people find themselves grappling with injuries and the associated hardships.

The earthquake itself, registering a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter Scale, struck with unrelenting force at precisely 11:47 PM the previous night. Its epicenter was located in the Barekot Rural Municipality of Jajarkot, sending shockwaves that reverberated through the region, leading to the tragic loss of lives and a trail of destruction in its path.

The communities in both Jajarkot and Rukum West are now faced with the arduous task of recovery, as they come to terms with the impact of this devastating earthquake and strive to rebuild their lives amidst the immense challenges that lie ahead.
