Australia commits $600,000 in humanitarian aid for western Nepal earthquake recovery

KATHMANDU: The Australian government has declared its commitment to offering $600,000 in humanitarian aid in response to the recent earthquake in western Nepal, the most significant seismic event in the region since the destructive 7.8 magnitude earthquake in 2015.

In a statement released by the Australian government, the allocated funds will be channeled through existing multilateral and local partnerships, facilitating the provision of emergency humanitarian supplies and crucial life-saving protection and assistance. The assistance from Australia will also play a role in early reconstruction endeavors aimed at restoring damaged public infrastructure, particularly in healthcare facilities.

Expressing condolences for the loss of life and the extensive damage caused by the earthquake in western Nepal, Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Penny Wong, stated, “These funds will help provide emergency supplies and assistance to the people of western Nepal as they recover from this devastating event.”

Similarly, Australian Minister for International Development and the Pacific, Pat Conroy, affirmed Australia’s support for those affected by the tragic earthquake in Nepal. “We are collaborating with our multilateral and local partners to ensure that Australia’s support reaches those who need it most,” he added.
