Armed Police Force Enhances Security Measures at TIA Customs Office

KATHMANDU: In an effort to bolster security and combat rising gold smuggling cases at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), a new security base of the Armed Police Force (APF) has been established at the TIA Customs Office. The APF made the announcement during a press conference in Kathmandu on its 23rd establishment day.

The newly established base, in operation for the past week, aims to address the escalating gold smuggling incidents. Rajendra Khadka, the spokesperson for APF Nepal, revealed that a dedicated team of 30 individuals, commanded by an Armed Police Force Inspector, will be mobilized to conduct effective customs checks and enhance overall security at TIA.

Apart from the security base at TIA, APF Nepal has set up eight disaster management bases, one in each province, enabling immediate mobilization in case of emergencies. These bases are strategically positioned for swift deployment in disaster management tasks.

To tackle evolving security challenges, APF has introduced a Sub-Branch of Counter-Terrorism, focusing on preventing the misuse of social media. A dedicated desk has been established for this purpose.

In addition, the APF has initiated a Post Graduate Diploma in Security and Disaster Management Studies Program at Matatirtha in Kathmandu. The program aims to produce specialized manpower for disaster management and border security. Successful completion of this course is now mandatory for the promotion of APF officers.

As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability, APF has adopted a policy to minimize the use of plastic materials domestically.

During the press conference, it was also highlighted that APF Nepal Hospitals have been established in all provinces to provide necessary medical treatment to armed police deployed in the field. This initiative ensures that medical services are readily available to support the health and well-being of the APF personnel.
