Ex-NT director and SPC executive detained for alleged illegal wealth acquisition

KATHMANDU: Sunil Paudel, the former Managing Director of Nepal Telecom, and Bikal Paudel, the former Executive Director of the Security Printing Center (SPC), have been apprehended by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).

The arrests follow the non-compliance of both individuals in appearing for recording their statements related to ongoing investigations into alleged illegal wealth acquisition.

A high-ranking source at the CIAA confirmed that the arrests were made after the two failed to respond to summons issued by the anti-corruption body.

Both Sunil Paudel and Bikal Paudel face a corruption case, and a complaint regarding the illegal acquisition of property has also been filed against them. The CIAA, having completed its investigations, is prepared to present the accused before the Special Court today.

The charges against the former Nepal Telecom Managing Director and the ex-Executive Director of the Security Printing Center signal a significant move by authorities to address corruption allegations and enforce accountability.

The legal proceedings are expected to shed light on the specifics of the alleged wrongdoing and allow for a fair and transparent judicial process.
