Probe committee formed to investigate sale of Ncell shares submits report

The reason behind the decision of Axiata Group, the parent company of Ncell, to exit Nepal.

KATHMANDU: A probe committee formed to carry out study regarding the sale and purchase of shares of Ncell, the telecommunication service provider company of private sector, has submitted its report to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at Singha Durbar on Monday.

Committee Coordinator, Tanka Mani Sharma Dangal submitted the report in presence of Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma.

The government on last December 7 had formed the probe committee under coordination of former  Auditor General Sharma to investigate into the issues of compliance with existing laws regarding the decision of Ncell share sale and purchase, revenue and possible impacts in foreign investment.

Secretary of the government of Nepal, Phanindra Gautam, Joint-Secretary of the Finance Ministry, Ritesh Kumar Shakya, Joint-Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Baburam Bhandari, and President of ICAN, Sujan Kumar Kafle, were the committee members.

Although a one-month timeline was given to the probe committee to submit the report, the deadline was extended after the committee failed to complete the task within deadline.  RSS
