Kathmandu Metropolitan City issues ultimatum to vacate Lalita Niwas government land

KATHMANDU: In a decisive move, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has served a 7-day ultimatum to individuals, companies, and organizations occupying government land in the Lalita Niwas area of Ward-4. The notice, issued today, invokes Section 97 (1) of Chapter-13 of the Local Government Operation Act, 2074 BS, highlighting the KMC’s responsibility to protect, maintain, and manage government property within its jurisdiction.

The stern directive comes in the wake of a verdict from the Special Court in Kathmandu on February 20, 2080, implicating 175 individuals, including the Government of Nepal and defendant Kaladhar Deuja, in a corruption case related to the improper registration of government land under individual names. The focus of the notice is on the confiscation of land in the Lalita Niwas area, KMC Ward -4, Baluwatar.

The notice explicitly instructs individuals, companies, and organizations residing in Lalita Niwas to cooperate with the KMC in the protection and proper management of the government property reclaimed from the area.

The statement reads, “Within seven days from the date of publication of this notice, individuals, companies, and organizations are requested to cooperate with the KMC in the protection and proper management of the government property reclaimed from the area.”

The KMC emphasized that non-compliance within the stipulated time frame would result in eviction in accordance with prevailing laws, ensuring the protection, maintenance, and proper management of government land and property.

This move by the KMC signifies a robust commitment to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding public assets, sending a clear message against any encroachments on government property.
