Nepal’s digital future: Prez Paudel outlines plans to enhance broadband services

KATHMANDU: In a landmark address to a joint session of both houses of the Federal Parliament on Tuesday, President Ramchandra Paudel unveiled ambitious plans to enhance the quality, accessibility, and security of broadband services across Nepal.

Emphasizing the critical role of information and communication technology (ICT) in national development, President Paudel pledged to bolster legal and institutional frameworks to ensure the safe and effective use of ICT.

Key initiatives outlined in the government’s agenda include a comprehensive revision of the Digital Nepal framework, restructuring of IT agencies to optimize service delivery, and the formulation of laws governing electronic governance and personal data protection. Furthermore, plans are underway to streamline business processes through the development of an electronic governance blueprint and strategy.

President Paudel underscored the importance of expanding broadband internet services, citing it as essential for national progress. To safeguard this vital infrastructure, modern technologies will be employed, and an internet and data exchange firm will be established to facilitate seamless interconnection between electrical systems.

The announcement signals a significant stride towards modernizing Nepal’s digital infrastructure, ensuring that broadband services not only meet international standards but also contribute to the nation’s socioeconomic development and security.
