KATHMANDU: The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has issued a stern warning to 73 Internet Service Providers (ISPs), including major players like Classic Tech, Dish Media Network, Broadband Nepal, Broadlink Network, and Websurfer Nepal, to clear outstanding royalties and contributions to the Rural Telecommunications Development Fund within 15 days or face legal action under the Telecommunications Act, 2053.
In a public notice, the NTA directed these companies to submit overdue payments, along with required audit reports and documentation, within the stipulated timeframe. Failure to comply will trigger enforcement actions as per the law. The notice highlighted that the listed ISPs have failed to submit financial audit details, royalty payments, and contributions to the Rural Telecommunications Development Fund to the government and the NTA for several years.
Despite repeated communications through letters, emails, and public notices, the NTA stated that these service providers have neglected to clear their dues or provide the necessary financial documentation. “All concerned parties are hereby informed through this notice to submit the required details, documents, and outstanding payments within 15 days from the date of this publication, as per regulations, and inform the NTA accordingly,” the notice read.
The NTA’s warning underscores its efforts to enforce financial accountability in the telecom sector, ensuring that ISPs contribute to regulatory obligations and support rural telecom development initiatives. Non-compliance could lead to penalties or further regulatory measures, potentially disrupting the operations of the listed companies.
