Government to introduce law to regulate OTT services

KATHMANDU: The government has announced plans to introduce legislation to regulate Over-The-Top (OTT) media services. This was revealed by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel during the presentation of the budget for the fiscal year 2082/83 (2025/26) on Thursday.
In his budget speech, Finance Minister Paudel stated, “Legal provisions will be made to regulate OTT services operating within telecommunications and broadcasting services.”
Additionally, he emphasized that advertisements will be made standard-based, dignified, and well-regulated.
This move is expected to bring structure and oversight to the rapidly growing OTT sector in Nepal, ensuring compliance and accountability.
