KATHMANDU: The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) is set to introduce new NPR 10 banknotes into circulation starting today, June 16, 2025. The Currency Management Department of the NRB announced that the new banknotes will retain the same size and color as the existing ones.
According to the NRB, the banknotes, bearing serial numbers from D/32 000001 to P/94 999999, will include the promissory note: “This is a legal tender of Nepal, guaranteed by the Government of Nepal, and Nepal Rastra Bank will pay NPR 10 immediately upon demand.” The front of the note features an image of Mount Everest on the left, a watermark of a rhododendron flower on the right, and the signature of then-Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari. The serial number border at the bottom will display “B.S. 2081” in Nepali.
The back of the note will have “Nepal Rastra Bank” written in English at the top center, an image of a blackbuck in the middle, and “Rupees Ten” along with the serial number “2024 AD” in English on the bottom border.
The NRB also clarified that an earlier announcement on December 10, 2020, had planned to circulate NPR 10 banknotes (2020 series) with serial numbers from Dh/82 000001 to D/45 999999. However, only notes from Dh/82 000001 to D/31 800000 were actually put into circulation.
These new banknotes are expected to enhance the currency supply while maintaining the aesthetic and security features familiar to the public.
