KATHMANDU: As tensions between Israel and Iran intensify, the Government of Nepal has initiated comprehensive preparations to ensure the safety and potential evacuation of Nepali citizens residing in both countries.
Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, addressing a high-level inter-ministerial meeting held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that the government is fully committed to utilizing every possible measure to protect Nepali nationals. The joint meeting included representatives from the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security; the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation; and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Dr. Rana emphasized that the Nepal Embassy in Tel Aviv is working proactively under the coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assist Nepalis amid the escalating crisis. She also confirmed that an online registration portal has been launched for Nepali citizens wishing to return, with over 600 individuals already registered. The registration process remains open.
“The government is in active preparation for evacuation,” Dr. Rana said, adding that Nepalis who traveled to Israel under the government-to-government (G2G) labor agreement will also be assisted, should they wish to return home or relocate to a safer region. She further stated that the Israeli government has already been requested to facilitate safe passage for Nepali citizens through border areas into neighboring countries.
In Iran, there are currently 18 Nepali nationals. Although the situation there is relatively calmer, the government remains alert and prepared for any developments. As part of its precautionary efforts, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a second travel advisory, urging all Nepalis currently in Israel and Iran to exercise maximum caution and discouraging any travel from Nepal to Israel or the Middle East at this time.
Minister Rana reiterated Nepal’s commitment to prioritizing the safety, dignity, and rights of its citizens abroad during times of crisis. The Ministry is maintaining constant coordination with embassies, foreign missions, and host governments to ensure a timely and efficient response if evacuation becomes necessary.
This proactive approach reflects Nepal’s increasing diplomatic responsiveness in the face of global emergencies, especially concerning labor migrants and citizens abroad. With thousands of Nepalis working across the Middle East, the government’s efforts to secure and safeguard its people amid growing geopolitical instability are being closely watched both domestically and internationally.
