Nepal’s budget passed in HoR amid Rastriya Swatantra Party and Rastriya Prajatantra Party boycott

KATHMANDU: The Appropriation Bill (Budget) for 2082 has been passed by the House of Representatives with a majority vote. On Tuesday, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel presented the proposal to pass the bill, which was approved despite ongoing opposition disruptions.

Lawmakers from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) were absent during the budget’s passage, having boycotted all discussions. The two parties have been demanding the resignation of the Home Minister over the visit visa controversy and the formation of a parliamentary probe committee or a high-level judicial commission to investigate the issue. Since May 13, 2025, RSP and RPP lawmakers have refrained from participating in House proceedings due to the government’s failure to address their demands.

Despite their absence and continued opposition protests, the House session proceeded, culminating in the budget’s approval. With the budget now passed, related bills, including the Economic Bill, 2082, and the National Debt Raising Bill, 2082, have moved forward for deliberation in the House.

The boycott by RSP and RPP underscores ongoing political tensions, even as the government advances its fiscal agenda.
