KATHMANDU: Goma Shrestha, a determined young student from a humble background, has become an inspiration for Nepal’s youth, securing a perfect 4.0 GPA in her Secondary Education Examination (SEE) while working at a brick kiln to fund her studies.
Her remarkable story of resilience and ambition caught the attention of Bhat-Bhateni Supermarket’s Chairman, Min Bahadur Gurung, and his wife, Sabitri Gurung, who invited her to their Kathmandu office to celebrate her achievement and pledge transformative support for her future.
In a heartfelt ceremony, Goma was honored with NPR 100,000, a laptop, and a certificate of appreciation. More significantly, the Gurungs committed to fully funding her education, from higher secondary studies to her dream of pursuing an MBBS degree. This gesture reflects Bhat-Bhateni’s ethos of uplifting those who dare to dream big, regardless of their circumstances.
“Goma’s story embodies the spirit of perseverance,” said Min Bahadur Gurung. “Her hard work and determination inspire us all. Supporting her education is our way of nurturing Nepal’s future leaders.” Sabitri Gurung added, “We believe every child with a dream deserves a chance. Goma’s journey is just beginning, and we’re proud to walk alongside her.”
Goma, visibly moved, shared her gratitude: “I never imagined my efforts would lead to such support. This opportunity means the world to me and my family. I want to become a doctor to serve my community, and now that dream feels within reach.” Her story resonates deeply in a country where many young students face financial barriers to education, particularly in pursuing competitive fields like medicine.
Bhat-Bhateni’s commitment extends beyond financial aid, aiming to empower Goma with resources to excel academically and professionally. The laptop will enable her to access digital learning tools, while the scholarship ensures she can focus on her studies without financial strain. This initiative aligns with Bhat-Bhateni’s broader mission to support education and community development across Nepal.
Goma’s achievement highlights the potential within Nepal’s youth, often obscured by economic hardships. Her 4.0 GPA, earned through late-night studies after grueling days at the kiln, showcases extraordinary dedication. The Gurungs’ pledge not only transforms Goma’s life but also sends a powerful message: hard work and dreams can open doors, even in the face of adversity.
As Goma embarks on her journey toward becoming a doctor, her story stands as a beacon of hope. Bhat-Bhateni’s support ensures that her small steps today will lead to a giant leap for her dreams, paving the way for a brighter future for her and her community.
