KATHMANDU: The Nepal German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NGCCI), in collaboration with Nepal Centre UK, successfully organized a high-level Nepal-UK Investment Meeting at the prestigious House of Lords in London on July 2, 2025. The gathering aimed to promote trade, tourism, infrastructure, and investment opportunities between Nepal and the United Kingdom.
Senior government officials, prominent business leaders from both countries, and diplomatic representatives attended the event. Sushil Gyawali, CEO of the Investment Board Nepal (IBN), highlighted Nepal’s evolving investment climate, particularly in energy, hospitality, airport modernization, and infrastructure. He emphasized Nepal’s investor-friendly reforms and regulatory streamlining, calling on UK investors to explore Nepal’s untapped economic potential.
Baroness Verma described Nepal as a strategically significant investment hub due to its location between India and China. She urged British investors to consider Nepal as a priority destination, citing long-term growth possibilities.
Entrepreneurs like George Chacko, a UK-based tech investor, lauded Nepal’s policies but stressed the importance of consistent execution. Rabindra Jung Lamichhane of Gini London raised concerns regarding bureaucratic hurdles affecting investor confidence.
NGCCI President Santosh Chandra Kunwar, who facilitated the meeting, encouraged UK businesses to increase investment in Nepal, calling it a rising foreign investment destination. Nepal’s Ambassador to the UK, Mr. Chandra Ghimire, pledged embassy-level support for committed investors.
Notably, fashion designer Sanyukta Shrestha showcased successful UK-Nepal business collaborations, while Nirmal Kumar Thapa of Nepal Centre UK stated that such dialogues would deepen bilateral economic ties. He hinted that a British Trade Delegation may visit Kathmandu later this year.
