KATHMANDU: NIC Asia Bank has signed a major cross-border payment agreement with Nepal Clearing House Limited (NCHL) to enable international tourists using the Alipay+ network to make direct payments at NepalPay QR merchants operated by the bank across Nepal.

With this strategic partnership, foreign travelers from over 11 countries connected to the Alipay+ network—including China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Mongolia, Thailand, South Korea, Italy, Macau, and Germany—can now seamlessly pay at local QR merchants in Nepal using their home country wallets or banking apps.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Jayendra Rawal, Deputy CEO of NIC Asia Bank, and Mr. Nileshman Singh Pradhan, CEO of NCHL. The collaboration is expected to significantly strengthen Nepal’s digital payment ecosystem and promote the country as a cashless-friendly destination for global tourists.

Alipay+ is a growing global payment platform connecting various national wallets and financial institutions, and its integration with NepalPay QR through NIC Asia Bank will allow merchants in Nepal to receive direct payments from international customers instantly and securely.

This agreement marks a new milestone in Nepal’s journey toward expanding interoperable cross-border QR payment infrastructure, and it is anticipated to boost digital financial inclusion while enhancing the convenience of tourists visiting Nepal. The move also supports Nepal’s broader efforts to strengthen fintech capabilities and modernize its payment systems in line with global trends.
