FNCCI president Dhakal urges British companies to invest in Nepal’s hydro, tourism, and IT sectors

KATHMANDU: Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), has called on British companies to invest in Nepal, highlighting vast opportunities in sectors like hydropower, tourism, agriculture, information technology, infrastructure, and manufacturing.

Addressing an investment promotion event jointly organized by the UK–Nepal Chamber of Commerce and the Embassy of Nepal in London, President Dhakal emphasized the need to transform the over 200-year-old Nepal–UK relationship into stronger economic ties through trade and investment.

The event, held at the Embassy of Nepal in London, brought together representatives from both countries’ business communities, investors, and members of the Nepali diaspora.

Dhakal pointed to Nepal’s strategic location between India and China, abundant young and skilled workforce, low labor costs, and a growing middle class as factors that make the country an attractive investment destination.

“Nepal has the potential to generate over 40,000 MW of hydropower,” Dhakal stated, calling for British firms to tap into clean and green energy, which he described as the future.

He also underscored the capacity of Nepal’s youth in IT and digital services, proposing Nepal as a competitive hub for outsourcing and digital innovation. He reaffirmed FNCCI’s commitment to ensuring a supportive and stable investment environment.

Commending the UK-based Nepali community’s contribution in promoting bilateral ties, he urged further support in export promotion and tourism development. The event is expected to enhance Nepal–UK trade, investment, and economic collaboration to new heights.
