KATHMANDU: The Nepalese stock market witnessed a double-digit decline on Monday, the second trading day of the week, as the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) Index fell by 26 points, closing at 2,672 points.

According to Nepse data, of the 324 companies traded, 42 saw their share prices rise, 212 saw declines, and 6 remained unchanged. A total of 20.4 million shares were transacted, amounting to Rs 10.77 billion in turnover.

Among the top traded stocks, Ridi Power Company led the market with Rs 77 crore in transactions, followed by SY Panel (Rs 54 crore), Aankhu Khola Hydropower (Rs 48 crore), Liberty Energy (Rs 37 crore), and Nyadi GUPR (Rs 33 crore).

Significant price movements were observed in key hydropower stocks. Khani Khola Hydropower shares dropped 9.97%, while Ridi Power Company shares fell by 9.11%, reflecting heavy selling pressure in the sector.

Market analysts attribute the decline to sector-specific sell-offs, profit-taking, and cautious investor sentiment amid ongoing volatility in the broader stock market.

Monday’s trading highlights the market’s sensitivity to high-volume transactions in leading companies, particularly in the hydropower segment, which continues to dominate both turnover and investor attention on Nepse.
