KATHMANDU: The NEPSE Index increased by 33.27 points on Wednesday, the first trading day of Nepali New Year 2083 BS, closing at 2,866 points.
During intraday trading, the index reached a high of 2,879 points around 1:07 PM before slightly declining toward the close.
Total market turnover also increased, with transactions worth Rs 10.53 billion recorded, compared to Rs 8.66 billion in the previous session.
A total of 221 companies saw their share prices rise, while 45 declined and three remained unchanged. All sectoral indices ended in positive territory, with the hotel and tourism sector gaining the most at 3.16 percent.
Other sectors including banking, development banks, finance, hydropower, investment, insurance, microfinance, manufacturing, trading, and others also posted gains.
Seven companies recorded a 10 percent increase in their share prices during the day. Meanwhile, Reliance Spinning Mills saw the highest decline of 5.61 percent, followed by Upakar Laghubitta with a drop of 4.44 percent.
Among the most actively traded companies were Shivam Cements, National Hydropower Company, Reliance Spinning Mills, Solu Hydropower, and Ridi Power Company.
