KATHMANDU Ana Isabel Xavier, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Portugal, is set to arrive in Nepal on April 29 for a three-day official visit.

The visit, scheduled until May 1, is taking place at the invitation of Amrit Bahadur Rai, and is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations and exploring areas of mutual interest between the two countries.

High-Level Meetings Scheduled

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nepal, Xavier will hold bilateral talks with Foreign Secretary Rai on Baisakh 17 (April 30).

She is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal on the same day.

Discussions during these meetings will include a review of existing Nepal–Portugal relations and identification of new avenues for cooperation, particularly in economic, diplomatic, and development sectors.

Delegation and Strategic Focus

Xavier will be accompanied by a delegation led by João Ribeiro de Almeida, the non-resident ambassador of Portugal to Nepal.

Officials say the visit is expected to further strengthen diplomatic engagement and expand collaboration between the two countries. Key issues likely to be discussed include labor cooperation and the welfare of the growing Nepali diaspora in Portugal.

Nepal and Portugal have seen increasing engagement in recent years, particularly with rising labor migration and people-to-people ties. The visit is being viewed as a step toward enhancing economic cooperation, foreign employment opportunities, and broader international partnerships.
