KATHMANDU — A corruption case has been filed against former Finance Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki and 13 others over alleged irregularities in the construction of Pokhara International Airport.
The case has been filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) at the Special Court. According to Special Court spokesperson Krishna Sharan Lamichhane, the case is currently in the registration process at the court.
The anti-graft body has sought recovery of Rs 3.62 billion in alleged damages in the latest case related to the airport project.
Along with former minister Karki, the CIAA has named former Finance Secretary Shankar Prasad Adhikari, former Tourism Secretary Maheshwar Neupane, joint secretaries Suresh Acharya and Dunduraj Ghimire, former secretary Kewal Bhandari, former directors general of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal Sanjiv Gautam and Pradeep Adhikari, under-secretary Yuvaraj Pandey, section officer Urmila Bhandari, engineer Yogesh Aryal and two companies as defendants in the case.
The latest filing is the third corruption case related to the Pokhara International Airport project.
Earlier, on Mangsir 21, the CIAA had filed another corruption case naming five former ministers and other officials as defendants. Subsequently, on Chaitra 8, another case related to alleged corruption in the airport construction process was also filed.
The Pokhara International Airport project has remained under scrutiny amid allegations of financial irregularities, procurement violations and misuse of state resources during construction and implementation phases.
