Huawei launches FusionSolar 9.0 and LUTERRA grid-forming ESS to support Nepal’s clean energy transition

KATHMANDU: Huawei has launched its latest FusionSolar 9.0 Smart PV Solution and LUTERRA Utility Grid-Forming Energy Storage System (ESS) in Nepal, reaffirming the company’s long-term commitment to supporting the country’s transition toward clean, reliable and sustainable energy.

The new solutions were unveiled during an event held under the theme “Step into the All-Scenario Grid-Forming Era.” The event brought together government representatives, energy developers, industry leaders, business partners and key stakeholders from Nepal’s renewable energy sector.

The solutions were jointly launched by Birendra Raj Pandey, President of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI); Yu Jianlong, Director of Huawei Digital Power South Asia Region; Chester Chen, CEO of Huawei Nepal; and Rohit Chandra Shah, Director of Huawei Nepal Digital Power.

The launch comes as Nepal seeks to expand renewable energy generation, strengthen its electricity infrastructure and improve the reliability of its national power grid.

Huawei said its latest Digital Power technologies are designed to help Nepal make more efficient use of renewable energy while supporting grid stability and the country’s long-term energy security objectives.

FusionSolar 9.0 to Boost Solar Energy Efficiency

The FusionSolar 9.0 Smart PV Solution is Huawei’s latest utility-scale solar power solution, combining solar energy generation with intelligent digital technologies.

The solution is designed to improve the operational efficiency of large-scale solar power projects and maximise clean energy generation. By integrating digital technologies into solar power infrastructure, the system aims to enable more efficient management and operation of renewable energy assets.

As Nepal continues to increase its focus on hydropower and other renewable energy sources, solar power is also emerging as an important component of the country’s future energy mix.

Huawei’s FusionSolar platform is intended to support energy developers and utilities in building smarter and more efficient solar generation infrastructure, helping increase the contribution of clean energy to the national power system.

LUTERRA ESS to Strengthen Grid Stability

Alongside FusionSolar 9.0, Huawei also introduced the LUTERRA Utility Grid-Forming ESS, an advanced battery energy storage solution designed to address the growing need for energy storage as renewable power generation expands.

Energy storage systems play an increasingly important role in renewable energy integration. They can store electricity generated during periods of high renewable energy production and make it available when demand rises or generation fluctuates.

Huawei said the LUTERRA Utility Grid-Forming ESS is designed to help store renewable energy, balance electricity supply and demand and enhance the stability and resilience of the national power grid.

The grid-forming capability of the system is aimed at supporting a more stable electricity network as the share of variable renewable energy sources increases.

Integrated Approach to Nepal’s Renewable Energy Future

Huawei said the combination of FusionSolar 9.0 and LUTERRA Utility Grid-Forming ESS provides an integrated approach to Nepal’s evolving renewable energy landscape.

While the FusionSolar solution focuses on efficient solar power generation, the energy storage system is designed to help manage the intermittent nature of renewable electricity and support grid stability.

Together, the two technologies could help energy developers and utilities build more resilient and efficient renewable energy infrastructure.

The solutions are also expected to contribute to Nepal’s broader efforts to strengthen energy security and improve the reliability of electricity supply as the country expands its clean energy capacity.

With Nepal increasingly seeking to harness its renewable energy potential, particularly for domestic consumption and future electricity exports, technologies that can integrate renewable generation with modern grid management and energy storage are becoming increasingly important.

Speaking at the launch event, Chester Chen, CEO of Huawei Nepal, highlighted Huawei’s long-standing presence and commitment to Nepal.

He said the company was proud to introduce FusionSolar 9.0 and the LUTERRA Utility Grid-Forming ESS at a time when Nepal is accelerating its transition toward green energy.
