Naubise–Nagdhunga section of Prithivi Highway road project nears completion, 85% work finished

KATHMANDU: The construction of the Naubise–Nagdhunga road section in Dhading district has entered its final phase, with the project reporting that about 85 percent of the work has already been completed.

According to Keshav Prasad Ojha, chief of the Naubise–Nagdhunga Road Section Project, the first package of the project includes the construction of a 12.5-kilometre road along with two bridges. Most of this work has already been completed.

The project now plans to finish the third layer of asphalt paving and complete the overhead bridge at Khanikhola within the next 35 days. Officials said that once the final paving is completed, work on road safety features, markings, and painting will begin.

However, the project may face some delays due to the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March and the Holi festival occurring before it. Construction had also been slowed earlier by disputes related to temporary settlements in the Khanikhola area where the overhead bridge is being built.

Project officials said that most relocation work in the bridge area has now been completed, which is expected to accelerate construction in the coming weeks.

Shahdev Khadka, Managing Director of Sagoon Construction, the contractor company, also noted that election activities could cause minor delays. Previously, the presence of electricity poles along the road corridor had also affected progress.

The project, which began in 2022, originally set a target to be completed within three years. Officials say the remaining major works — including the overhead bridge and final surfacing — are expected to be finished within the announced timeline if no further disruptions occur.
