KATHMANDU: Dr. Bishwanath Paudel, Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, emphasized the proper use of money and its value as a medium to store wealth, urging individuals to manage their earnings wisely regardless of profession.
Speaking on Monday at the Global Money Week–2026 event, he advised students to understand the importance of money, savings, and expenditure management from a young age.
“Whether one becomes a doctor, engineer, plumber, electrician, or teacher, it is essential to know how to use the money earned through hard work,” Governor Paudel said. He explained that money determines the value of work done today and how it can be exchanged for goods and services in the future.
He added, “Money allows you to buy necessities like milk, sugar, or tea after performing work for someone. It reflects the fruits of labor, so one must learn to use it properly and safeguard the value earned through hard work.”
Referring to past practices, Paudel noted that people were often compelled to work for others for life if debts remained unpaid. “Even today, failure to manage money properly can have negative consequences,” he said.
He also highlighted the evolving nature of money, from gold, silver, and copper coins in the past to notes today and the possibility of virtual money in the future. “It is important to understand how to save, spend, and use money effectively through banking services and digital payments,” Paudel concluded.
