KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Swarnim Waglé has strongly rejected allegations that confidential information related to electric vehicle (EV) taxation and policy decisions was leaked from the Ministry of Finance, challenging critics to produce evidence of any wrongdoing.

Speaking during a discussion at the parliamentary Public Accounts Committee on Thursday, the finance minister said he was prepared to resign not only from his ministerial position and politics but also from public life if anyone could prove even a minor act of dishonesty on his part.

“Not two billion rupees—prove that I have been dishonest even by two rupees, and I will leave the post of finance minister, quit politics, and withdraw from public life,” Waglé told lawmakers during the committee meeting.

The minister appeared emotional while addressing the allegations, stating that attempts were being made to tarnish an image he had built through a commitment to integrity and ethical conduct. He argued that the accusations were part of a deliberate campaign aimed at discrediting him.

Waglé maintained that no evidence had been presented to substantiate claims that sensitive information regarding electric vehicle-related tax measures or policy changes had been leaked prior to official announcements.

Questioning the motives behind the allegations, he said he had consistently upheld high ethical standards throughout his public career and challenged his critics to present concrete proof rather than relying on speculation.

The remarks came amid ongoing political debate over claims that advance information regarding EV-related fiscal measures may have been accessed by interested parties before the announcement of government policies. The issue has drawn attention from lawmakers and the public, prompting discussions in parliamentary committees.

During the meeting, Waglé reiterated that he was willing to face any investigation and remained confident that no evidence would emerge linking him to any form of misconduct.
