KATHMANDU: A five-seater Cirrus SR22 X-series private aircraft has landed at Pokhara International Airport after flying from Malaysia via Thailand, highlighting the growing potential of Pokhara as an international destination for private and general aviation.
The aircraft, registered in the United States under the registration number N555VG, is powered by a propeller engine and has a seating capacity of five.
Pokhara International Airport Chief Jagannath Niraula said the aircraft landed at the airport for refuelling as part of a ferry flight.
“This is a ferry flight. The aircraft landed at Pokhara International Airport today for refuelling,” Niraula said.
According to Niraula, the aircraft landed at 11:38 am after receiving permission from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).
He said the arrival of international private aircraft at Pokhara International Airport could help promote the airport in the international aviation market and strengthen its visibility among private aircraft operators.
“This type of international private aircraft operation at Pokhara is expected to contribute to promoting the airport in the global market,” Niraula said.
The aircraft is scheduled to depart for Lahore, Pakistan, on Wednesday, according to the airport authorities.
Data from Flightradar shows that the aircraft arrived in Pokhara on Saturday after flying from Malaysia via Thailand.
The arrival of the private aircraft comes as Pokhara International Airport seeks to expand international flight operations and attract more international aviation activity.
While the airport has faced challenges in securing regular international commercial flights, private and charter aircraft movements could provide an additional avenue for promoting the airport as an international aviation hub.
The landing also highlights the potential of private jet and general aviation traffic in Nepal, particularly through Pokhara, which is a major tourism destination and gateway to the Annapurna region.
