KATHMANDU: Nepal’s emergence as a global luxury tourism destination has received a major international boost after Shinta Mani Mustang was named the No. 1 hotel in Robb Report’s 50 Greatest Luxury Hotels on Earth 2026.
The recognition has placed the luxury property in Lower Mustang at the top of one of the world’s most prestigious luxury hospitality rankings, marking a significant milestone for both the hotel and Nepal’s ambition to re-establish itself as a premier destination for high-end international travelers.
Shinta Mani Mustang, the flagship luxury property of Sherpa Hospitality Group (SHG), opened in August 2023. The property has since sought to position Nepal within the global luxury travel market by combining the country’s Himalayan landscapes, cultural heritage, wellness traditions and authentic local experiences with high-end hospitality.
The 2026 ranking was selected by Robb Report’s 24 Travel Masters, a group of leading luxury travel advisors who curate journeys for high-net-worth and discerning travelers worldwide. The recognition places Shinta Mani Mustang ahead of some of the most celebrated luxury hotels and resorts globally.
In its citation, Robb Report described the property as “another of maximalist designer Bill Bensley’s masterful far-flung palaces of fantasy,” highlighting its breathtaking views and positioning it as an “ultimate retreat for the body, mind and spirit.”
Namgyal Sherpa, CEO of Sherpa Hospitality Group, said the recognition represents more than an achievement for an individual hotel and reflects Nepal’s growing potential in the global luxury tourism market.
“For many years, our vision has been to reaffirm Nepal’s place among the world’s leading luxury destinations—not by changing who we are, but by celebrating what makes Nepal truly exceptional. Our culture, our landscapes, our people, and our heritage are our greatest assets,” Sherpa said.
He added that the recognition demonstrates Nepal’s ability to stand alongside the world’s most renowned luxury destinations while remaining authentic to its identity.
Shinta Mani Mustang has received a series of international recognitions since its opening. The property was featured in Robb Report’s Best of the Best and The 50 Best Luxury Hotels in the World in 2024, followed by recognition as Best Luxury Adventure Hotel in 2025. Its latest achievement as the world’s No. 1 luxury hotel in 2026 marks the latest milestone in its international recognition.
Designed by renowned architect and designer Bill Bensley, Shinta Mani Mustang offers an all-inclusive experience with a minimum five-night stay. Guests are provided with privately guided itineraries led by experienced Bensley Adventure Butlers, who facilitate bespoke experiences across Mustang’s landscapes, cultural heritage and historic sites.
The property is located amid the trans-Himalayan landscape of Mustang, with views of the snow-capped Nilgiri range. Its design seeks to integrate luxury with the region’s natural environment and cultural heritage, emphasizing sustainability and respect for local traditions.
The international recognition comes at a time when global luxury travelers are increasingly seeking experiences that combine exclusivity with authenticity, wellness, sustainability and meaningful cultural engagement.
For Nepal, the accolade could help strengthen its positioning beyond its traditional image as a destination primarily associated with trekking, mountaineering and budget travel. The recognition of Shinta Mani Mustang highlights the potential for the country to develop a premium tourism segment based on its Himalayan landscapes, heritage and distinctive cultural experiences.
Sherpa Hospitality Group said it remains focused on elevating Nepal’s profile as one of the world’s most inspiring luxury travel destinations through experiences rooted in cultural heritage, sustainability and authentic connections.
The group operates under the philosophy “Timeless Connections. Transformative Journeys,” with a focus on creating hospitality experiences that are deeply connected to their locations while promoting meaningful encounters between travelers, local communities and destinations.
