KATHMANDU: State-owned telecom operator Nepal Telecom (NTC) has extended the validity of its prepaid service packages from 28 days to 30 days, offering added value and convenience to millions of users across Nepal.

The decision has already come into effect, with the popular ‘Combo-299 Pack’ upgraded from a 28-day cycle to a full 30-day validity starting Tuesday night, according to the company.

The move follows a directive issued after discussions between Minister for Communication and Information Technology Bikram Timilsina and NTC officials, signaling a policy push toward more consumer-friendly telecom services.

Acting Managing Director Reena Dangol confirmed that one of the 28-day packages has already been converted, and the company plans to migrate all remaining 28-day prepaid packages to a 30-day cycle by Baisakh 11 (late April 2026).

The revision is expected to directly benefit customers by aligning telecom services with the calendar month. Users will now need to recharge only once a month, simplifying usage patterns and improving cost predictability.

With the same pricing but extended service duration, subscribers will receive additional access to data, voice, and SMS services—effectively increasing the value proposition without additional cost.

Industry analysts view the move as a significant step toward improving customer satisfaction and strengthening trust in public telecom services. It is also expected to intensify competition in Nepal’s telecom sector, prompting private operators to revisit their pricing and service structures.

The reform aligns with broader digital policy goals of enhancing accessibility, affordability, and user experience in Nepal’s rapidly evolving ICT ecosystem, as demand for reliable and cost-effective connectivity continues to grow.
