KATHMANDU: Six commercial banks in Nepal have reported a combined negative distributable profit of Rs 34.01 billion in the first nine months of the current fiscal year 2082/83.
According to published financial statements, NIC Asia Bank, Himalayan Bank, Prabhu Bank, Nepal Investment Mega Bank, Kumari Bank, and Citizens Bank International recorded negative distributable profits as of Chaitra-end.
Among them, NIC Asia Bank reported the highest deficit, with negative distributable profit of Rs 13.65 billion, compared to Rs 3.56 billion negative in the same period last year.
Himalayan Bank reported Rs 10.46 billion negative, followed by Prabhu Bank with Rs 4.28 billion, Nepal Investment Mega Bank with Rs 3.10 billion, Kumari Bank with Rs 1.98 billion, and Citizens Bank International with Rs 504.4 million negative distributable profit.
In contrast, 14 commercial banks reported positive distributable profit during the same period. Nabil Bank posted Rs 4.37 billion, Everest Bank Rs 4.04 billion, Global IME Bank over Rs 3 billion, and Siddhartha Bank Rs 2.99 billion.
Similarly, Sanima Bank reported Rs 2.14 billion, Standard Chartered Bank Nepal Rs 1.35 billion, Nepal SBI Bank Rs 1.02 billion, Machhapuchchhre Bank Rs 762.2 million, and Agricultural Development Bank Rs 1.25 billion in distributable profit.
Other banks with positive distributable profit include NMB Bank, Prime Commercial Bank, Rastriya Banijya Bank, Nepal Bank, and Laxmi Sunrise Bank.
Based on nine-month data, three banks have dividend capacity above 20 percent. Everest Bank has the highest at 39.34 percent, followed by Nabil Bank at 21.16 percent and Siddhartha Bank at 20.98 percent.
Sanima Bank has dividend capacity of 18.57 percent, Standard Chartered Bank Nepal 17.69 percent, Nepal SBI Bank 10.75 percent, and Global IME Bank 10.50 percent.
Other banks have lower dividend capacity, including Machhapuchchhre Bank at 7.81 percent, Agricultural Development Bank at 7.78 percent, NMB Bank at 5.34 percent, Prime Bank at 4.76 percent, Rastriya Banijya Bank at 3.80 percent, Nepal Bank at 2.92 percent, and Laxmi Sunrise Bank at 1.93 percent.
