KATHMANDU – The Government of Nepal has significantly increased the salaries and allowances of civil servants through the national budget for fiscal year 2083/84, revising basic pay scales, introducing incentive allowances, and maintaining a uniform inflation allowance across all levels.
Under the revised salary structure, the minimum total remuneration for government employees now exceeds Rs 38,000, while senior officials such as the Chief Secretary will receive nearly Rs 98,000 per month.
The decision aims to address rising living costs and improve employee morale across the civil service.
According to the revised pay scale, the Chief Secretary’s basic salary has been increased from Rs 77,299 to Rs 84,321. With an additional Rs 8,443 incentive allowance and Rs 5,000 inflation allowance, the total monthly remuneration has reached Rs 98,425.
Similarly, Secretaries will now receive a total of Rs 92,219, including revised basic salary, incentive pay, and inflation allowance.

The government has maintained a uniform Rs 5,000 inflation allowance for all employees across all levels, alongside revised incentive payments based on job category.
Officials said the salary revision reflects the government’s effort to align public sector wages with rising inflation while improving efficiency and performance in the civil service.
The new pay structure is expected to provide financial relief to employees and enhance motivation within the public administration system.
