FNCCI leadership urged to hold AGM, election by adopting health safety measures

KATHMANDU: A majority of the members of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has suggested the FNCCI’s leadership to hold the organization’s annual general meeting (AGM) and the election of the new executive committee at the earliest in Kathmandu by maintaining social distance norms.
A panel formed to study the effective modality to hold the organization’s 54th AGM and election has prepared a report whereby a majority of FNCCI district and municipal members has recommended holding the AGM in the Capital by adopting set health safety protocols.
The committee which comprises industrialists DB Basnet, Arun Raj Sumargi, Binod Dhakal, Sunil Gopal Shrestha, Bharat Acharya and Ranjeet Acharya is expected to submit its study report to the FNCCI leadership soon.
FNCCI had initially planned to hold its AGM on April 10 and 11. However, it was rescheduled to August 10 and 11 owing to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and government’s restriction on mass gatherings. However, FNCCI could not hold the AGM even at the later date as the pandemic continued to spread.
As the tenure of the current executive committee of FNCCI led by President Bhawani Rana has already completed, most of the FNCCI members have been pressurizing the federation’s leadership to hold the AGM and election as soon as possible.
As per the current statute of FNCCI, Shekhar Golchha, current senior vice-president of FNCCI will automatically lead the organization while there will be election for other executive committee posts.
