Suman Pandey elected secretary/treasurer of PATA

KATHMANDU: Suman Pandey, chairman of Explore Himalaya Travel and Adventure and former chairman of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Nepal Chapter (2013-18) has been elected as the secretary cum treasurer of PATA.

Pandey was appointed to the position after defeating Malaysian competitor, Faeez Fadhlillah, in an online election held on November 12.

Similarly, Hai Ho, a Vietnamese candidate, was elected as the vice-president of the association after defeating his competitor Sokhom Thok from Cambodia. The current Vice-President of PATA, Soon-Hwa Wong of Singapore, has been elected as the chair of PATA for the upcoming year.

Pandey is also engaged in Explore Himalaya Travel and Adventure as chairman. He is also the chief executive officer of Fishtail Air and director of Summit Air. Pandey is also associated with Aloft Hotel Kathmandu as its director and in Shadow Center also as a director.

Prior to his recent appointment, Pandey held the post of president at PATA Nepal Chapter. He has also been involved with the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal as its president, vice president and secretary general.

He has also been the general secretary of Airlines Operators Association of Nepal (AOAN), executive member of Nepal Tourism Board and executive member of Nepal Tourism Year- 2011. He has also been honored with the Tourist Man of the Year 2011∕2017 and the Lifetime Achievement in Tourism Award -2015.

PATA is the world’s largest tourist association with more than 6,000 members from 77 countries. Pandey’s appointment to the post of secretary/treasurer in PATA is expected to contribute to reviving the tourism sector in Nepal that has been severely affected by the COVID-19.
