Sudesh Khaling becomes first Nepali CEO of Everest Bank

KATHMANDU: Everest Bank Limited has appointed Sudesh Khaling as its chief executive officer (CEO).

It is the first time that the bank appointed a Nepali citizen as CEO in 25 years of its establishment. Everest Bank used to bring in a CEO from Punjab National Bank of India, the joint venture of Everest Bank.

Punjab National Bank has 20 percent investment in Everest Bank.

Khaling has already resigned from the board of directors of Citizens Bank after being appointed as the CEO in the Everest Bank.

However, Khaling may not be able to lead Everest Bank immediately due to a NRB’s directive. The NRB has fixed a cooling period, the period between resigning from one and joining another institution, of six months for CEOs and board of directors of bank and financial institutions (BFIs).
