Banks not to accept deposits below Rs 50,000 throughout prohibitory period

KATHMANDU: Amid increasing flow of people across bank branches which has posed risk of coronavirus transmission, banks have decided not to accept deposits below Rs 50,000 throughout the prohibitory period.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Nepal Bankers’ Association (NBA), the umbrella organization representing country’s commercial banks, said that banks would give other essential services, including withdrawal facility throug certain branches. However, deposits below Rs 50,000 will not be entertained to minimize the flow of public in bank branches.

However, money transfer facility will be provided and remittance payment service will also be provided. Services related to international trade will be provided.

Similarly, NBA has urged people to use digital banking services.
