Financial sector workers into protest against Social Security Scheme

KATHMANDU: Employees of banks and financial institutions (BFIs) and insurance companies have started protest against the social security scheme of the government citing that they will not be affiliated to the fund until government makes amendment to different provision in Social Security Act.

They have started protest saying that the SSF is trying to force the employees in the financial sector to join the social security scheme. They have been protesting against the provision of various provisions in laws guiding the social security scheme including the right of collective bargaining, reduction of food and beverage facilities, compulsory affiliation, among others.

Employees of all commercial banks, finance companies, microfinance institutions and insurance companies have started agitation against the fund since Tuesday.

All the banks and financial institutions and insurance companies except Laxmi Bank and Standard Chartered Bank have joined the protest against the social security scheme.
