Financial sector workers register writ against Social Security Fund at apex court

KATHMANDU: Financial sector employees have filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the Social Security Fund (SSF).

They filed a writ petition on Sunday expressing disagreement with some points in the Social Security Act.

The SSF has asked all the employers affiliated to organizations in the organized sector, including the financial sector, to join and start contributing to SSF by mid-July. The financial sector employees have filed the writ petition at the apex court alleging that the SSF expressing dissatisfaction over different provisions in the SSF.

Following the directive issued by SSF asking all the private sector companies to compulsorily participate in the programme, employees’ associations of banks and financial institutions had been urging the government to make the SSF participation voluntary.

Financial Institute Employees Union of Nepal stated that employees are being forced to participate in SSF without amending the inappropriate provisions of SSF Act, its regulation and work procedures.
