Dordi Corridor 132 KV transmission line fully operational

KATHMANDU: The Dordi Corridor 132 KV double circuit transmission line constructed for the electricity produced from Lamjung’s Dordi and its tributaries has been fully operational.

After completing the reconstruction of 4 towers that were damaged by the flood in Dordi river in June, last year, the transmission line has been put into full operation from Thursday. With the transmission line fully, the infrastructure has been prepared for about 300 megawatts of electricity.

The Nepal Electricity Authority had commissioned a partial section of the transmission line from Udipur in Benshisahar municipality of Lamjung to Kirtipur substation in Dordi rural municipality from last August.

As it seemed that it would take some time to rebuild the towers damaged by the flood, a partial section of the line was put into operation using the Dordi Corridor line from Udipur substation to the Dordi Khola-1 hydropower project built by the private sector and from there to Kirtipur substation using the Dordi Khola-1 transmission line.

As an alternative arrangement, the electricity of hydropower projects built by the private sector was connected using the three and a half kilometer transmission line of Dordi Khola-1. Ramesh Paudel, the head of the project, said that after the reconstruction of the tower was completed and the transmission line was put into operation, the electricity of all the private sector hydropower projects built on the Dordi river was connected to the Kirtipur substation and flowed to the national system through the Dordi corridor transmission line.

27 MW Dordi Khola, 25 MW Upper Dordi ‘A’, 12 MW Dordi Khola-1 and 8.63 MW Chepekhola small hydropower projects are connected to the transmission line. The electricity of other projects under construction and to be constructed in that corridor will be connected to this line, including the 54 megawatt Super-Dordi ‘B’ hydroelectric power which is in the final stage of construction.

As per NEA, the construction of Udipur substation seems to take some time, arrangements have been made to connect electricity to the switchyard of the currently operating medium current power plant through an alternative arrangement. About 6 kilometers of the under construction 220 KV Masryangdi Corridor line has been put into use. Udipur substation, which is in the final stage of construction, is being worked on with the aim of bringing it into operation by June.

The Dordi Corridor transmission line with an estimated cost of Rs 85 crore has been built with the investment of the government. The length of the transmission line is 10 km. The project itself has constructed a substation of 132 KV, 10 MVA capacity at Kirtipur. The 4 towers of the transmission line, which were completed in 2077, were swept away by the flood in Dordi River in June 2078. The project was started in 2074 BS.
