The 27th time climbing Everest, Kami Rita Sherpa breaks his own record

KATHMANDU: Today, the renowned mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa broke his own record by ascending the highest peak in the world for the record 27th time.

According to expedition company, seven summit trek, Kami Rita, 53, made the 27th successful ascent of Mount Everest- the 8,848.86-metre mountain- on Wednesday at 8:30am this morning. For the most successful ascents of Mount Everest, Kami Rita has established a world record.

Pasang Dawa Sherpa had previously matched his record of ascending Everest 26 times. The first time Kami Rita scaled Mount Everest was on May 13, 1994.

The Department of Tourism issued 478 fee-paying people climbing Everest permits this spring, the highest number of permits ever.

For foreigners, an Everest climbing permit costs $11,000. However, the final cost of the ascent for climbers ranges from $40,000 to $90,000.
