Wrestling held in Kalapathar to set the world record

SOLUKHUMBU: In an event aimed at setting a record for wrestling at the highest place on Earth, an international friendly wrestling match was completed in Kalapathar on May 29, in celebration of ‘Everest Day.’

On Tuesday, the Nepal Women’s Wrestling Foundation organized a friendly wrestling match at Kalapathar, situated at an altitude of 5,644 meters. This marks the first international wrestling competition held at Kalapathar in the Khumbu Rural Municipality of Solukhumbu, Nepal.

Nepal’s first female wrestler, Bhagwati Khadka (Yunika), emerged victorious in the friendly competition against American wrestler Danielle Morrison (Dani Mo). Khadka, who has aspired to set a world record through wrestling, asserted that this record will be recognized, as no wrestling match has been conducted at such a high altitude before.

Comedian Shiva Shankar Rizal (Jogindar Panwala) hosted the event, incorporating comedy performances into the program. Nepali wrestler Asmita Jureli officiated the match as the referee. Sonam Sherpa, MD of All Around Treks facilitated the event locally.
