KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has recorded an impressive surge in passenger traffic, with over 3.128 million travelers passing through its terminals in the first four months of 2025 (January to April).
According to Jagannath Niraula, the airport’s chief, a total of 3,128,464 passengers utilized TIA’s services during this period, underscoring its pivotal role as Nepal’s primary aviation hub. Notably, international travelers outnumbered domestic ones, reflecting Nepal’s growing appeal as a global travel destination.
From January to April, 1,642,100 passengers undertook international travel through TIA. This includes 813,660 departing from Nepal and 803,343 arriving in the country. The monthly breakdown shows a steady increase: 387,034 passengers in January, 373,534 in February, 424,522 in March, and 457,010 in April.
A total of 10,335 international flight movements (arrivals and departures) were recorded, indicating robust connectivity with global destinations. This surge in international traffic highlights Nepal’s rising prominence in tourism and business travel, driven by its cultural heritage and natural attractions.
On the domestic front, TIA facilitated 1,486,364 passengers over the same period, with 761,665 departing from Kathmandu and 724,708 arriving. Monthly domestic figures show 312,926 travelers in January, 357,769 in February, 407,775 in March, and 407,894 in April. Domestic flight operations were equally significant, with 32,285 arrivals and departures recorded. These numbers reflect the critical role of air travel in connecting Nepal’s remote regions to the capital, supporting tourism, trade, and mobility.
Overall, TIA handled 42,620 flight movements in the first four months of 2025, comprising 10,335 international and 32,285 domestic flights. This high volume of activity underscores the airport’s operational efficiency despite ongoing challenges like infrastructure constraints. As Nepal continues to strengthen its aviation sector, TIA’s performance signals a positive outlook for the country’s tourism and economic growth in 2025.
