Nepal’s Road and Water Infrastructure See Significant Progress in 2081/82

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s road infrastructure has seen significant growth, with the total length of paved roads reaching 19,163 kilometers, according to the Economic Survey 2081/82 (2024/25) presented by the Ministry of Finance. The survey, tabled by Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel in parliament, includes both strategic road networks built by the federal government and local road networks, bringing the country’s total road length to 36,132 kilometers.

Of this, 8,204 kilometers are gravel roads, and 8,765 kilometers remain unpaved, reflecting ongoing efforts to expand and upgrade Nepal’s transportation infrastructure. The development of road networks is a key component of the government’s push to enhance connectivity and support economic growth, as outlined in the upcoming 2082/83 budget.

In addition to road infrastructure, the survey highlights remarkable progress in water supply access. As of Falgun 2081 (February/March 2025), 96.85% of Nepal’s population has access to basic drinking water services, marking a significant step toward universal coverage.

These achievements underscore the government’s commitment to improving critical infrastructure, setting a strong foundation for sustainable development as Nepal prepares for the next fiscal year’s budget, which aims to further accelerate infrastructure projects through public-private partnerships.
