KATHMANDU: In a landmark development for Nepal’s industrial sector, IME Group has invested NPR 1.5 billion to establish Everest Fiber Cement Board Industry, the country’s first facility producing international-standard fiber cement boards. The plant, located in Fatuwa Bijaypur Municipality-6, Rautahat, began operations today, with production and distribution officially launched.
The inauguration ceremony, held in Kathmandu, was officiated by Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, Damodar Bhandari. During the event, the minister unveiled the fiber cement boards and related products, marking the formal start of the industry’s operations. Addressing the gathering, Minister Bhandari hailed the establishment of this modern, eco-friendly facility as a significant step toward Nepal’s industrial progress. “This industry will not only reduce import dependency but also pave the way for sustainable development in the construction sector. The government will always encourage such production-oriented investments,” he stated.
Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and Chairman of IME Group, emphasized the industry’s role in leveraging local raw materials and resources to contribute to the construction sector. “This venture will create jobs, promote import substitution, and save foreign currency, paving the way for a self-reliant economy,” Dhakal said. He added that the industry demonstrates Nepal’s capability to produce world-class construction materials using local skills and resources.
The fully automated facility, equipped with cutting-edge technology for mixing, cutting, pressing, and drying, has a daily production capacity of 75,000 square feet of fiber cement boards. Available in dimensions of 4 feet by 8 feet with thicknesses ranging from 4 mm to 30 mm, these boards are flexible, fire-resistant, weatherproof, eco-friendly, and highly durable.
They are suitable for various applications, including exterior walls, partitions, false ceilings, modular kitchens, and eco-panels. The boards can even replace traditional bricks and plaster, enabling structures to be built in just 10–15 days, meeting growing demand in both domestic and international markets.
The industry’s products are also ideal for rapid, cost-effective, and sustainable construction during natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, or landslides, eliminating the need for plaster or paint, thus saving time and costs.
The plant has created employment opportunities for around 200 people, with over 98% being local workers and more than 40% women, involved in processes from production to packaging. Everest Fiber Cement Board Pvt. Ltd. aims to transform Nepal’s construction sector by delivering high-quality, eco-friendly, and competitive products.
