Chitwan National Park halts jeep safaris until second week of October

KATHMANDU: Chitwan National Park has temporarily suspended jeep safari operations starting Monday, citing the breeding season of wildlife and birds. According to the park’s Information Officer, Avinash Thapa Magar, the suspension will remain in place until the second week of October.

The monsoon season is considered a critical breeding period for wild animals, and human activity within the park could disturb their habitats and breeding processes, prompting the closure of jeep safaris.

The park administration annually halts commercial jeep safaris during the rainy season. Typically, 32 jeeps from the Sauraha area, 21 from Kasara, 11 from Meghauli, and 9 from Nawalparasi operate to ferry tourists inside the park.

Jeep safaris in the buffer zone forests outside the park will continue to operate as usual.
