Govt mobilizes all mechanisms to restore blocked roads nationwide

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has announced that all available human resources, equipment, and financial means have been mobilized to reopen roads blocked by recent earthquakes and heavy rainfall across the country.

According to the ministry, floods, landslides, and other natural disasters triggered by continuous downpours have caused severe damage to several highways and road networks, disrupting transportation nationwide. The ministry stated that the Department of Roads has been working round the clock to clear the obstructions and ensure the resumption of vehicular movement as soon as possible.

In an official statement, the ministry emphasized that the reopening of major highways remains the top priority. Repair and restoration works are being carried out intensively on critical road sections, including the Prithvi Highway, Narayanghat–Muglin Road, and key trade corridors connecting Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Narayanghat. The ministry confirmed that these routes have been partially reopened for traffic following emergency clearance operations conducted since Saturday.

Similarly, repair works have begun on the BP Highway (Bhakundebesi–Nepalthok section) and Mechi Highway, both severely damaged by the recent flooding. Diversion roads are being constructed to resume temporary traffic movement until full restoration is completed.

The ministry said coordination efforts are ongoing with the District Administration Offices, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Traffic Police, and local governments to accelerate repair works and restore full connectivity across affected areas.

Citizens are advised to check the latest road updates via the Department of Roads’ official website or contact the call center at 9851416893 for real-time information before traveling.

Expressing condolences, the ministry paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the disasters and extended sympathy to the injured and affected families. It also appealed to the public to remain calm and patient as the government works to normalize transportation and rebuild critical infrastructure.
