KATHMANDU: A delegation led by Rabi Lamichhane, chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), received a high-profile welcome upon arrival in New Delhi on Monday, with senior leaders of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) greeting the Nepali political leader at the airport.
Lamichhane was welcomed by Arun Singh and Vijay Chauthaiwale after arriving in the Indian capital at the invitation of BJP leader Nitin Navin.
Accompanying Lamichhane on the visit are RSP Joint General Secretary Bipin Acharya and party leader Deepak Bohara.
The BJP is preparing a formal reception for the RSP delegation at its headquarters in New Delhi on Tuesday. During the visit, Lamichhane is scheduled to hold talks with Nitin Navin and other senior BJP leaders.
According to sources familiar with the program, a luncheon in honor of the Nepali leader has also been arranged at the party headquarters.
Speaking about the visit, Vijay Chauthaiwale said Nepal and India share a special relationship and that engagements with leaders of Nepal’s major political forces carry significant importance for bilateral ties.
One of the key highlights of the visit will be Lamichhane’s planned meeting with Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, India’s Minister of External Affairs.
The meeting is expected to take place at the BJP headquarters, where discussions are likely to focus on Nepal-India relations, regional cooperation, and broader political engagement between the two neighboring countries.
The BJP’s foreign affairs department has also organized a dinner reception in honor of the RSP delegation.
Lamichhane is also scheduled to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday.
While the exact timing of the meeting has yet to be finalized, it is expected to be one of the most significant engagements of the visit.
In addition to the meeting with Prime Minister Modi, Lamichhane is expected to participate in several official-level interactions focusing on strengthening Nepal–India relations and enhancing regional cooperation.
The visit will also include outreach to the Nepali diaspora in India.
A New Delhi-based organization, International Nepali Forum, has scheduled a felicitation program for Lamichhane on Thursday. The event is being organized by members of the Nepali community residing in India in recognition of the RSP’s recent electoral success.
As part of his India itinerary, Lamichhane is also scheduled to visit Ayodhya, one of India’s most prominent religious and cultural destinations.
The visit comes amid growing political engagement between leaders of Nepal and India and is expected to provide an opportunity for discussions on bilateral relations, economic cooperation, regional connectivity, and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
