KATHMANDU: In a major boost to Nepal’s aviation and tourism sectors, flydubai has received official approval to operate daily international flights from Pokhara International Airport beginning September 23, 2026, according to the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority.
The approval marks a significant milestone for Pokhara International Airport, Nepal’s third international gateway, which has been seeking regular international airline services since its inauguration. Authorities say the development represents a major step toward establishing the airport as a key regional aviation hub.
A spokesperson for the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority said the airline was granted operating permission after successfully completing high-level security, safety, and operational assessments required for international service.
“A significant breakthrough has been achieved in the effort to launch regular international flights from Pokhara International Airport. Following comprehensive security, safety and operational inspections, Flydubai has been authorized to begin daily flights from September 23, 2026,” the spokesperson said.
The launch of daily Dubai-Pokhara services is expected to strengthen Nepal’s tourism industry, improve international connectivity, and support economic growth in Gandaki Province and western Nepal.
Industry experts believe the direct link will help attract more international visitors to Pokhara, one of Nepal’s most popular tourism destinations known for its proximity to the Annapurna region, adventure tourism activities, and scenic mountain landscapes.
Officials also highlighted that the new service will help reduce Kathmandu’s dominance as the country’s primary aviation hub by decentralizing international air traffic and expanding travel options for passengers outside the capital.
With Dubai serving as one of the world’s busiest international transit hubs, the new route is expected to dramatically improve global connectivity for travelers from Pokhara.
According to aviation officials, direct air connectivity with Dubai will provide passengers traveling through Pokhara access to more than 300 cities across the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and other regions through Flydubai’s network and partner airline connections.
The development is also expected to benefit thousands of Nepali migrant workers traveling to Gulf countries while creating new opportunities for inbound tourism, international trade, and investment.
The approval comes at a crucial time for Pokhara International Airport, which has faced challenges in attracting regular international airlines despite significant infrastructure investment.
The entry of Flydubai is widely viewed as a landmark achievement that could encourage additional international carriers to consider operations from Pokhara in the future, strengthening Nepal’s aviation sector and enhancing the city’s standing as a global tourism destination.
