KATHMANDU: The Social Security Fund (SSF) has collected more than Rs 116.71 billion in contributions from registered employers and contributors as of the end of the fiscal year 2025/26.
According to the fund, a total of Rs 116.71 billion, 89 lakh, 50 thousand and 525 has been deposited in the Social Security Fund up to the end of Ashad in the fiscal year 2082/83.
The number of registered employers has reached 23,490, while the number of registered contributors has climbed to 3.04 million.
The fund has so far disbursed Rs 21.27 billion in various social security claims.
Of the total claim payments, Rs 3.52 billion has been provided under medical treatment, health and maternity benefits.
Similarly, Rs 304.6 million has been disbursed under accident and disability protection, while Rs 380.4 million has been provided under dependent family protection.
The largest share of payments has been made under the retirement benefit category, with the fund disbursing Rs 17.06 billion in retirement-related claims.
The number of contributors and the total amount deposited into the fund have increased in recent years, particularly after workers leaving the country for foreign employment were also brought under the Social Security Fund’s coverage.
The fund has been expanding its social security programmes, including pension, medical treatment, health and maternity benefits, as well as other forms of social protection. The expansion of these programmes has also increased public interest in the fund.
The Social Security Fund has also started investing in various productive sectors. The fund expects such investments to generate broader benefits while strengthening its financial sustainability and expanding the scope of social security programmes in the country.
The growing number of registered contributors and employers is seen as a significant step towards expanding Nepal’s formal social security system and providing greater financial protection to workers and their families.
